Canon PIXMA iP2820 Drivers Download– Get Canon® quality and real-world convenience with the PIXMA iP2820 Inkjet Printer. Compact design fits almost anywhere. It offers many convenient features such as Auto Power On which automatically turns on the printer whenever you send a photo or document to print.
With the optional high-capacity XL ink cartridge, you can print a lot. The PIXMA iP2820 also offers Full HD Movie Print, a feature that can turn HD video clips captured with your compatible Canon® EOS Digital SLR camera, Power Shot digital camera, and VIXIA digital camcorder into beautiful prints.
The Canon PIXMA iP2820 isn’t a particularly complicated printer–so you wouldn’t expect it to cost $40. It is targeted at entry-level consumers who want to print great images. And for that consumer level, it does a pretty good job.
We started our ergonomic tour with a folded printer. The top lid comes out to hold the paper and there is a paper tray that holds the printing paper in place. Here you will also find the on/off button. Otherwise, the printer does not have a main button or LCD panel.
This printer takes up most standard paper sizes at about eight inches wide. Again, for a printer of this size and price, you shouldn’t expect much.
To print, you must set up a default connection to your computer. It’s not too bad of a deal, but we’d really say it’s a spectacular product and it works to your advantage if it has wireless connectivity.
It’s really simple–there’s nothing complicated about this printer and it’s purely designed to just output photos.
Build quality
We’ll keep repeating that this is a $40 printer–don’t expect spectacular build quality. Honestly, it felt like something I could potentially cut and break in karate. But why did I do that?
The top lid and paper tray does feel sturdy and doesn’t come off easily. As long as you have this printer on the table, drunken children or roommates will not be able to cause major functional problems.
Ease of use
Much of the ease of use has to do with the fact that there are very few controls with this printer. There is an on/off button and the rest is controlled by your computer. Once we calibrated our screen, we didn’t really mind Canon’s software itself. Our printing is done through Adobe Lightroom 5 and is very easy to do.
The PIXMA iP2820 printer is not a very large printer at all and can be folded to be more compact. It won’t take up much space on your desk at home, so don’t mind the fact that we photographed it on an IKEA coffee table.
Calibration
It is best to calibrate this printer using external software. We calibrated our screens first using Spyder software and peripherals and then using Adobe Lightroom 5. Initially, our images came out with a slightly purplish cast, but our screens had the same problem. After working with the profiles in Lightroom, we were able to get the printer to pump out images that were close to what we wanted.
Again, at $40, we weren’t expecting anything particularly luxurious. Having said that, I personally am a canvas printer because of the way canvas absorbs light in apartments vs reflects it like normal paper. We also prefer the Dye Sublimation process to the inkjet process.
The images we got with the Galerie Prestige Ilford paper were sharp and very beautiful.
Canon PIXMA iP2820 Setup
Canon provides a preloaded CD with the software to install. But modern Apple laptops don’t have this. If your students get one of these printers, we recommend that you make sure they download the driver offline during setup–or set it up for them so they don’t ask their technical friend to do it.
Color Accuracy
When we first started printing the images, we found them to be too warm for our liking. Then we calibrated the printer and had fewer problems. When the Ilford paper dried completely, we were very, very happy with the printouts from the PIXMA iP2820. The images we print tend to be very contrasting, and the paper and printer can both handle the job with no issues at all.
