Canon PIXMA MG3650 Drivers Download– The Canon PIXMA MG3650 is one of the entry-level multifunction printers in the PIXMA range. While it doesn’t have a built-in color display like the PIXMA TS model, it includes some more advanced features such as automatic duplex printing and direct printing from the cloud.
The PIXMA series represents a step away from having to connect your PC to a printer. With direct printing and scanning, you can use the printer without a PC at all if you want. Print documents directly from Google Drive, print photos wirelessly from your phone, scan and email documents – all possible without a computer if you have the MG3650 at home.
Size
Like the other PIXMA series, the PIXMA MG3650 has a 100 sheet input tray. You don’t need to change paper very often if you use the MG3650 at home.
The design is compact and takes up very little space in your home. It’s easy to pack it up in the corner somewhere and forget about it until you need it, although it’s also stylish enough to place on your home office desk.
Compared to PIXMA TS5050, TS6050, TS08050 and TS9050, MG3650 takes up more space. It is slightly wider and taller than this new printer, but not very deep.
Print and Scan Speed
About 10 monochrome A4 pages can be printed per minute and approximately 6 color A4 pages can be printed per minute. This is a tolerable speed, although a higher printer in the PIXMA range will print about 50% faster.
Printing a 10 x 15 cm borderless photo takes about 44 seconds, which is a little slow. In comparison, the PIXMA TS5050 will print the same photo in about 39 seconds, and the newer PIXMA TS8050 will print it in 21 seconds. If you will be printing a large number of photos in succession, this model may be a better choice.
Connection
The printer does not include a built-in SD card reader. This isn’t a big deal for most people, especially since you can print wirelessly from most digital cameras, smartphones, and devices.
You can print wirelessly using Apple AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, and from Android and iOS using the Canon app. This pretty much covers every wireless device out there, so once you’ve got your printer set up, you’re free to print from almost anywhere.
Setting up the printer for wireless printing is not that difficult but some users have found the included instructions a bit lacking. The problem could stem from the many potential ways to wirelessly connect someone’s phone to a printer – Cloud Link, SELPHY, Canon Print Service for Android, PictBridge, Mopria, Google Cloud Print, Apple AirPrint, and direct access point modes are all supported.
Choosing the right option for your home use depends on what you plan to do with your printer, but Canon could have made better installation instructions, especially since there is no built-in LCD screen to help guide you.
Print and Scan Quality
With a print resolution of up to 4,800 dots per inch, this printer gives your photos and documents justice. Borderless printing is supported, in four different sizes including A4 and Letter. Automatic duplex printing is only supported on A4 and Letter sizes.
With a scanner of 1200 x 2400 dots per inch, the Canon PIXMA MG3650 is able to accurately reproduce the documents or photos you scan. The MG3650 also doubles as a copier and includes a borderless copy function.
Cartridges and Economy
With the MG3650, Canon kept the cartridges simple. There are only two cartridges to replace – black and color. The first supplied cartridge is not completely filled and therefore depletes quickly. Hence, it makes sense to buy an additional set of cartridges when you buy a printer.
There are two options for cartridges – standard ink cartridges and XL cartridges. With standard cartridges, expect a yield of approximately 180 black pages, 180 color pages, or 69 color photos.
XL cartridges have about three times the yield of standard cartridges and offer significant economic improvements.
Based on the price of the black and color cartridges, the MG3650 appears more economical when you print a lot in color. The relatively high price of the black cartridge means if you plan on doing a lot of basic monochrome text printing then choosing one of the newer PIXMA models will work out a lot cheaper in the end. However, if you plan to print a lot in color, then the MG3650 is very economical for every page.
Conclusion
The Canon PIXMA MG3650 offers great print quality and a high definition scanner in a small and compact format. Being able to print wirelessly from a cell phone or the cloud is a bonus, and the device is relatively easy to install and very easy to use.
Economically, the MG3650 is best suited if you plan to print a lot of color documents or photos because it is in color printing that the printer shines in terms of sustainable cost per page.
Reasons for the lag for potential buyers are the lack of an LED screen and SD card reader, a larger table footprint, and slower speeds.
Those looking for automatic (two-sided) duplex printing and perfect print every time will be well served by the PIXMA MG3650.
