The TS3110 is designed for families and households that print and copy very little – a kind of device that’s there when you need it.
A minimalist in every way
Measuring 5.8 by 12.5 by 17.2 inches (HWD) with closed drawers and weighing 8.5 pounds, very few AIOs are as small as the TS3110, except for the HP DeskJet 3755 (5, 6 by 15.9 by 7 inches and 5.1 pounds), although the Epson Expression Home XP-440 Small-in-One comes very close in size and weighs just half a pound more. The next model in the TS series, the Canon TS5020, measures about 10 cm wider and is almost twice as heavy. Additionally, the Canon TS5020 uses five inks, while the TS3110 uses only four, making the former a better choice for photo printing.
For example, the TS3110 is enlarged from 12.5 inches long to 21.8 inches, and HP’s 3755 extends by approximately 5 inches and grows longer by more than 10 inches. Still, most of them fit comfortably on the average desktop, and the TS3110 (and its competitors) are designed to close easily and take up as little space as possible when not in use.
Another blatant giveaway that the TS3110 is a low-volume printer is that instead of using a separate print cartridge for each of the four inks (cyan, magenta, yellow and black, or CMYK), only two are used. One tank contains the black ink and the other contains the other three colors. Not only do these types of ink cartridges contain less ink than individual cartridges, but with the three-ink color ink tank, the cartridge must be replaced when one of the three tanks is empty, regardless of how much ink is left in the other two. reservoirs.
For a while, it seemed like printer manufacturers were getting away from this type of two-cartridge ink system, but it seems to be coming back. HP now has several, including the HP DeskJet 3755 and the company’s recent Envy Photo 7855 All-in-One, a significantly more expensive and fully featured TS3110 competitor.
In addition to the entry-level ink system, the TS3110 offers the minimum paper handling capacity of just one 60-sheet paper tray, compared to the Canon TS5020 and TS9120’s two 100-sheet trays, securely places it in the entry-level column. The HP 3755, on the other hand, can also hold only 60 sheets of paper and the Epson XP-440’s single tray can hold up to 100 sheets.
The TS3110’s paper tray can also be configured for up to 20 sheets of premium 4 x 6 inch photo paper and up to 10 sheets of 5 x 7 inch photo paper, which is about the same as the other. models mentioned here. However, the TS3110 does not support photo paper larger than 13 x 18 cm; for example, you can’t print borderless 8-by-10-inch photos, much less larger sizes.
Instead of a tablet-like touch screen with icons that act as shortcuts for setting up and executing various functions and workflow profiles, the TS3110 comes with an entry-level control panel consisting of several buttons and a 1.5-inch segment “monochrome LCD screen. You use the panel mainly for setting and checking functions, making copies, setting paper size and type, and so on. Most interaction takes place through your PC or mobile device. For example, printing or scanning to cloud sites is set up and executed from your smartphone or tablet via one of Canon’s mobile apps.
